昼夜界成纵与横，谁家有此一棋枰？
吾人为子随翻覆，覆尽挥将笥里行。
注：○棋枰：棋局也。司空图《丁巳元日》诗：“移居荒药圃，耗志在棋枰。”○翻覆：《文选·孔稚圭北山移文》：“岂期终始参差，苍黄翻覆。”吕延济注：“翻覆，不定也。”此言棋子之去取也。○笥：棋笥也。
But helpless Pieces of the Game He plays
Upon this Chequer-board of Nights and Days;
Hither and thither moves, and checks, and slays,
And one by one back in the Closet lays.
